Ajit Singh

Founder /Chairman

Ajit Singh, grew up in a small village in Punjab, India studied in a convent school and spent most of his childhood working on his family farm. In 2006 Ajit came to Australia. During his settlement in Australia, Ajit faced many challenges including learning a new language, experiences of racism and cultural shock. He has a great passion for supporting communities living in multicultural societies to live harmoniously and finding common grounds. Hence is started the Oorja Foundation along with other passionate young Australians to support and empower community in Australia.

Ajit started his career in the welfare sector at the Youth Hub in the western suburbs of Melbourne. From 2006—2008 co-delivered many youth focused projects, including sports, music, arts and leadership courses. In his current role as the Youth Settlement Worker at Spectrum Migrant Resource Centre Ajit supports young people from refugee/migrant backgrounds in their settlement needs. Ajit is also currently member of Executive committee of Hume Interfaith Network. He was the Managing Director of Bhangra Down Under, Australia’s biggest Punjabi dance festival which provides a platform to more than 600 young people to practice their traditional customs.

Ajit has a keen interest in sports and believes that sports has always been a most successful tool in bringing people from different cultures, ethnicities and countries together under one roof to share something they all like. Resulting his passion towards sports he is supporting local migrant communities to engage with local sporting events, clubs and organisations. He has been nominated Community Ambassador for AFC Asian Cup 2015 Australia and Along with he is also Multicultural Ambassador for Melbourne Victory FC, AFL and Cricket Australia. He has been involved with running poetry workshops for young people from diverse faiths with Multicultural Arts Victoria. In his spare time, Ajit enjoys local music, attending poetry events, travelling, bushwalking and cooking fine Indian cuisines. He enjoys doing meditation and yoga in his free time.

Nayana Bhandari

Co founder / Secretary

Nayana Bhandari is Co-founder of the Oorja Foundation Inc. With Masters in Environment sciences and Diploma in Social work she has served community from more than 12 years in India and Australia in the area such as community education, Community awareness, community participation and broadcasting.

She is passionate advocate of family violence and she actively takes part in anti domestic violence campaigns within the Indian community in Australia. Her mission is to develop cultural cohesion between local and Indian community through developing community outreach programs with creative, interactive and communicative methodology. At present, She is also serving as an executive member for Hume Interfaith Network and Multicultural Ambassador for AFL. Along with all these she is also working as a Social Impact producer for an Indian-Australian documentary "The Colour of love ".

Sanjay Bhandari


Sanjay Bhandari is the founder members of Oorja Foundation, working in telecom sector since 2008. He carries a great passion for serving community and his best interest lies in the area of social awareness as well as gender equality.

His dreams are to see integrated society within all religions so that the coming generations should respect each other cultural values. He is keenly interested in Punjabi poetry and Punjabi folk dances

Navin Chopra


Navin Chopra is one of the founder members of Oorja Foundation. Mechanical engineer by qualification, working as a Pro DJ and a Dance Choreographer. He loves to serve community through Music & Dance as it helps to reduce stress from people's mind and keep them fit along with learning.

He looks forward to spread happiness and create awareness about Indian Roots, Culture, and Values in this beautiful Multicultural country Australia

Harman Chopra


Harman Chopra is a visionary and enthusiastic founding member of Oorja. Her work as a teacher in India ignited her passion to educate and develop people to improve our society. She is extremely passionate about connecting the younger generation back to their roots and instill a sense of pride in their cultural heritage.

Being a firm believer in woman empowerment and equality, Harman is the role model of an ideal citizen who is passionate about creating a community that is free of family violence and discrimination based on sex, caste or religious beliefs.

Aside from supporting our vision at Oorja, Harman also works as an administrator at a respectable organisation in Australia and is a supermom to a loving son.

Sandeep Bhangu


I have done Masters in Information Technology. I am also a founder member of Oorja Foundation. My main focus area under Oorja foundation are community mobilization, participation and networking. I am passionate about community integration and strongly promote cultural awareness from Indian to wider community.

Saahil Luthra


Swati Nagrath


I am Masters in Accounting and Diploma holder in Early Childhood studies. I am also a founder member of Oorja Foundation. My major community interest lies in children and family services.

I have actively supported Oorja Foundation in playgroups support, administrative help and at group facilitations. I am passionate about children’s group and has contributed by various creative and interactive activities. I am looking forward to support such projects under Oorja Foundation for strengthening families.

Jagmohan Sharma


Jagmohan sharma is founder member of Oorja Foundation ,working in civil construction industry specially dealing in bridges from last 38 years.

Apart from professional activities he has vital interest in social activities specially in the integration of society and communities ,thus remains vocal with every caste and creed for their betterment .

Have great passion for music,poetry and cultural shows .
